About this site

Hi there! Welcome to my blog, where I share my passions, insights, and discoveries. I'm so glad you're here!

My name is Darrell, and I'm a military veteran who loves to explore new things and challenge myself. I come from humble beginnings, and through 20 years of military service, I feel I have achieved beyond what anyone expected I would. I am about to restart my life with a new career or direction.

But first, let me tell you a little about myself and why I started this blog.

I have always enjoyed learning new skills and hobbies, especially those related to technology, innovation, nature, and science. In my career, I have drifted from regular foot soldier roots to today, where I'm experimenting and designing bleeding-edge technologies for my portion of the world. Currently, as of 2023, the interests are military/government mobile communications architectures and implementations and piloting an airplane. They go together, trust me, I think.

I also have a knack for mentoring and sharing my discoveries with others. I do this very well at an interpersonal level. This is my greatest strength, enabling me to have an amazing career and experience many once-a-lifetime opportunities. With that, I have made many friends along the way. It has grown extensive enough that my family builds in 15-30 minutes in an outing for me to catch up with someone I randomly run into that I have met before.

However, one area that I struggle with is articulating clear and concise thoughts and then relaying those thoughts into a medium. That's why I decided to start this blog: to improve my writing skills and to publicly socialize my interests.

In this blog, you'll mostly just see things I have interests in, which are #technology #innovation #nature, and #science. Here is a list of some of the topics that I will cover:

  • Electronics
  • Cloud automation
  • Ansible
  • Terraform
  • Home automation
  • Blockchain
  • Crypto Investing
  • Woodworking and carpentry
  • Beer Brewing
  • Flying
  • Playing the tin whistle and ukelele
  • Whitewater kayaking (Not the basic stuff either)
  • Camping
  • Cooking
  • Rugby
  • Shooting sports
  • Web design
  • Knowledge management
  • A few things I can't mention here

Here is a list of things I don't consider to be hobbies but are things I've done and may or not be good at any of them:

  • Russian
  • French
  • Programming or software engineering
  • Python
  • Go

I hope you'll join me on this journey of re-discovery as I try to continue to build off my current skillsets, or even master them, for the good of my family, god, and country, or humanity in general.

If you're interested in any of these topics or want to learn something new with me, please subscribe to my blog and follow me on social media. I'd love to hear from you and get your feedback.

Thank you for reading this introduction post, and stay tuned for more!

About the site, in general

There are two parts to this website.

  • Part A: is the blog; the posts are primarily located toward the bottom, in a list. These posts are front pages to the posts located on the main blog site. This separation is to automate my workflow from creation to publishing.  I use Obsidian software, an amazing tool for note-taking and knowledge management.
  • Part B: is my freelance work; those posts are featured. I have monetized some of my interests and adventures. The current list is as follows;
RV leasing venture
Minecraft server hosting
COMING SOON! Drone Photography
